Houses vandalized again

Heritage homes in East Vancouver were once again the target of a vandal attack.
Sometime Saturday night, police say suspects splattered paint on three renovated heritage homes in the 800 block of Gore Avenue. The culprits wrote “DIE YUPPIE SCUM” on one home.
It’s just another incident in a string of attacks dating back to 2006.
“We’re aware houses [in the area] were firebombed,” VPD spokesperson Const. Jana McGuinness told 24 hours. “[Investigators] will look into any connection.”
Three homes in the same block were destroyed in August 2006 during a string of arsons that left the Strathcona residents fearing for their safety.
Additional police and community patrols were required to help ease fears of a firebug.
McGuinness said police may step up its presence in the community again.
She also refused to speculate whether the paint bombing was driven by gentrification.
“It’s too early to tell what the motive was,” she said. “But certainly there’s a feeling of unrest living there right now.”
