Renous prison under partial lockdown
Inmates locked up following seven-hour incident at maximum-security prison located near Miramichi

RENOUS – The Atlantic Institution in Renous was in a partial lockdown situation yesterday after a seven-hour disturbance in Unit 1 of the maximum-security prison late Thursday night.
The disturbance began at about 10:30 p.m. and ended at about 5:30 a.m. yesterday when the 60 inmates returned to their cells.
The prison incident response team was involved in efforts to diffuse the tense situation.
The inmates will remain in their cells on a 24-hour basis until prison officials complete their investigation and deem it safe to resume normal operations at the unit.
No one was hurt but there was damage to the unit, including damage to lights and cell door windows, said Correctional Service of Canada spokeswoman Natalie Arsenault yesterday.
Prison officials were assessing the damages yesterday, she said.
The officials weren’t saying what sparked the incident or if there were any demands from inmates after they refused to return to their cells for evening lock up.
Lockdowns of this type are necessary to ensure the safety of inmates and staff, said Arsenault.
The prison houses 230 inmates.
Confrontation 
if the government wasn’t so bull headed about taking tobacco out of all federal buildings, prison included, we wouldn’t have these riots. i was just released from renous, and it’s the no tobacco that causes it all. you’ve got guys who are never going to be released, ever, and you take their smokes, well, they don’t have anything else to do but smoke and drink coffee. and smoking cigarettes is harder to quit then heroin, so if the government had half a clue, they wouldn’t take tobacco out of prison, and everything would go back to normal. it’s now illegal to smoke on federal property, but it’s not illegal to smoke in your home. so what happens if your home is inside of a federal building? it doesn’t seem right to force me to not smoke in my home, and to make me quit cold turkey. yeah, so what, i’m a criminal, but i’m still a human being. renous is retarded, after the july 17th riot, the prison wouldn’t let us shower for 8 days. is that right? they turned off the water to the showers, no showers, no medical attention, stupid stuff like that. and they wonder why we go off and riot all the time. they’re running a hate factory. and they didn’t let the media know about the security breaches during the riot, when we got through the fire doors, and got the outside door to the unit open. couldnt go anywheres, still all kinds of fences, plus they were shooting live rounds at us if we got too close to that door. and did they mention that we were supposedly on lockdown when this riot happened? the guard in the bubble opened all the cell doors in the unit after pissing off all the inmates in unit 1 all day by refusing to let us out for our 20 min shower time, 2 inmates at a time. and no more than 2 inmates other than the cleaner are allowed out of their cells at a time. figure that one out. you take a feller’s smokes from him, piss him off, then open his door at 10:30 at night(lockup for count is 10:30) and you do it to everyone in unit 1, of course we’re gonna go off. corrections canada needs to start running things right, just because we’re all a bunch of criminals doesn’t mean you can violate our human rights. you ever go 8 days with no shower in the summertime, think about that. and that’s after the ert randomly pepper sprays us, and after all the tear gas from the riot. and after the outside tear gas from the riot, which isn’t supposed to be used inside because it can kill you. and after all that, the ert gets away with removing you from your cell, pointing the camera away from you(they dont want anyone to see this) and six full grown men handcuff you behind your back and beat the living hell out of you and pepper spray you, and that’s when you comply with their orders. someone should do something about this. i don’t know anything, i’m just an ignorant inmate who’s time in that hellhole finally ran out. thanks for reading
